Palliative Care Consults and Frailty Screening in High-Risk Vascular Surgery Patients
Palliative care has increasingly been integrated into the management of high-risk surgery because of the beneficial effect on patient quality of life. However, the utilization of palliative care in vascular surgery remains unclear due to a lack of data. The purpose of this study was to determine the palliative care consult rate in high-risk vascular surgery patients.

Predictors of Quality End-of-life Care and Goals of Care Communication Among Vascular Surgery Patients
Palliative care is associated with better overall care at end of life in the context of high-risk surgery. Given limited evidence describing palliative interventions and goals of care conversations among vascular surgery specifically, this study aimed to identify factors associated with quality end-of-life care in this patient population.

Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization of hepatocellular carcinoma in a patient with celiac trunk occlusion: a therapeutic challenge

Sarcomas of the Aorta: A Systematic Review and Pooled Analysis of Published Reports
Background: Aortic sarcomas are rare and aggressive tumors with a propensity for arterial embolization, disseminated metastases, and rapid clinical deterioration. Overall, little is known about the evaluation and management of this disease. Methods: A systematic review and pooled analysis were performed from a comprehensive search of the MEDLINE database for reports of primary aortic sarcomas published in the English language. Results: One hundred sixty-five cases were analyzed. The median age was 60 years, and the male:female ratio was 1.5:1. High tumor grade (87.3%), arterial embolization (46.7%), and metastatic disease at...

End-of-life care in Brazilian Pediatric Intensive Care Units
CONCLUSION: Most professionals felt unprepared to forego life-sustaining treatment. Even for terminally ill patients, withholding is preferred over the withdrawal of treatment. Socio-cultural barriers and the lack of adequate training may be contributing to insecurity in the care of terminally ill patients, diverging from practices in other countries.PMID:36963435 | DOI:10.1016/j.jped.2023.02.003

Co-designing Community Out-of-hours Palliative Care Services: A systematic literature search and review
CONCLUSION: Incorporating patients, families and carers priorities and preferences in the planning and designing of out-of-hours palliative care service is needed for service providers to deliver care that is more patient-centred. Adopting the principles of co-design may improve how out-of-hours care scan be delivered.PMID:36349547 | DOI:10.1177/02692163221132089

Development and validation of search filters to find articles on palliative care in bibliographic databases.
CONCLUSION:: Our search filters can support literature searches in the field of palliative care. Our specific filter retrieves 93.7% of relevant articles, while 45% of the retrieved articles are relevant. This filter can be used to find answers to questions when time is limited. Our sensitive filter finds 99.6% of all relevant articles and may, for instance, help conducting systematic reviews. Both filters perform better than prior developed search filters in the field of palliative care. PMID: 30688143 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Collagen plug-based vascular closure devices do not decrease vascular and bleeding complications occurring after balloon aortic valvuloplasty.
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results of this study, performed with small-size sheaths and without heparin, collagen plug-based VCDs increase femoral access complications following aortic valvuloplasty. Systematic use of VCDs in elderly patients, with probable advanced limb atherosclerosis, is questionable. PMID: 25754907 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Developing a computerised search to help UK General Practices identify more patients for palliative care planning: a feasibility study
Conclusions: It is possible to significantly improve the identification of patients for palliative care needs assessment using a computerised search however barriers remain to GPs’ finding it acceptable. Time-efficient systems were important as was a generic tool for anticipatory care planning not linked to ‘palliative’ care.

Authors: Miceli L, Bednarova R, Bednarova I, Rizzardo A, Cobianchi L, Dal Mas F, Biancuzzi H, Bove T, Dal Moro F, Zattoni F Abstract Italy adopted a law on chronic pain in March 2010, which focused on detection and management of this symptom, that affects approximately 25% of the population. The aim of this study is to analyze the interest of the Italian population in palliative care and chronic pain and to understand whether the Law 38/2010 made an impact on the internet search on chronic pain. Five research parameters were included using Google Trends (chronic pain, anti-inflammatory drugs, opioids, fibromyalgia,...

Treatment of cytokine release syndrome-induced vascular endothelial injury using mesenchymal stem cells
Mol Cell Biochem. 2023 Jul 1. doi: 10.1007/s11010-023-04785-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCytokine release syndrome (CRS) is an acute systemic inflammatory reaction in which hyperactivated immune cells suddenly release a large amount of cytokines, leading to exaggerated inflammatory responses, multiple organ dysfunction, and even death. Although palliative treatment strategies have significantly reduced the overall mortality, novel targeted treatment regimens with superior therapy efficacy are urgently needed. Vascular endothelial cells (ECs) are important target cells of systemic inflammation, and their destruction is ...
